As we often form personal relationships with our recruits, it is not uncommon to receive updates and stories about their new positions overseas. These letters are often a highlight to our day, and have been known to bring a laugh to the office. Here are just a few excerpts from some of our favourites.
“I had to laugh when I got here because I do think you need to advise new recruits, similar to me, [not to] stress about packing…all you need is EMPTY suitcases, your passport, and money!!! You greatly understated the shopping here…” - Danielle Lock, RN Labor and Delivery, King Faisal Specialist Hospital – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
“…I played at the 27th Annual Tennis Desert Classic a few months ago. I won the class C level and took home 2500 S.R. I haven’t really been playing much tennis so I played at this lower level. Paid a flight ticket out of the country. If you want to know, it is about 47 degrees outside.” - Ted Espiritu, RN Medical /Surgical, King Faisal Specialist Hospital – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
“I have grown as a therapist and as a person in ways I could have never imagined. I have visited seven countries so far and have met people from all over the world and have established many lifelong friendships.” – Lisa Selvey, Respiratory Therapist, King Faisal Specialist Hospital – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
“I love the Critical Care ECC…My intensive care skills are getting a workout which is what I hoped for!” – Crissy Henderson, RN Emergency Room, King Abdulaziz Medical City - Riyadh
“The hospital is absolutely fantastic. Everything is state of the art, and they have more equipment than all the hospitals I’ve worked in before put together. It does not even look like a hospital, more like a 5 star hotel.” – Daniela Wlodarski, RN ICU, Qatar Sports & Orthopaedic Hospital - Doha, Qatar
“If you are positive, then the experience will be positive.” – Lorrie Bushby, RN Operating Room, King Faisal Specialist Hospital – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
“My roommate is Dutch and she has been here for over 7 years so she’s been really helpful. She and I went shopping at Faisalia last night and it was fantastic!” – Jeannine Snider, RN Medical / Surgical, King Faisal Specialist Hospital – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
“I am getting settled and trying to get used to things here. Taking some time to wrap my tongue around the language, too many vowels!” – Kimberly Smotherman, X-Ray Technician, King Faisal Specialist Hospital – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
“It is warm. And I don’t pay taxes, and I can get a Starbucks Latte. How good is that?” – Marlene McVicar, RN ICU, King Faisal Specialist Hospital – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
